As we enter a new era of technology we also enter a new era of healthcare. Unfortunately, we’re living in a time where being healthy is challenging, but why is that? Advances in technology should lead to improvements in overall health, yet why are so many people making the same mistakes over & over each year? Let’s chat about how you can avoid common health mistakes this year!

Mistake #1: Settling For Long Wait Times

Just the other day I went for my annual eye exam and I showed up 10 minutes early, good move right? That’s what I thought, until I then had to wait for 20 minutes before I was pulled back to begin my exam. Now, I am not blaming the healthcare provider in this situation because being a healthcare professional myself, it’s important to recognize that this is a flaw of the system not always a flaw of the provider.

Find out how you can avoid making these common mistakes again by watching the video HERE!

The reality is healthcare professionals are being asked to see an extraordinary number of patients on a daily basis to help keep the door open. That means more double booking (seeing multiple patients at once), more notes to write, more prescriptions to keep track of, more phone calls to be made, and less time spent with you the patient. It’s a never ending feeling of being one step forward and 5245 steps behind.

I can confidently say that we did not get into healthcare because we wanted to run a race we would never win, we got into healthcare to help people, to create a positive environment for healing, and to empower others to take their health into their own hands.

The unfortunate mistake here is that we, as the consumer, keep feeding into this flawed system. We keep settling for long wait times, agreeably nodding our heads when we get to speak with our providers for less than 5 minutes, and then we do it again at our next appointment. And if you don’t believe me check out this stat: in 2022, the average number of days it took to schedule an appointment was 26, compared to 21 days when this survey was first conducted in 2004 (1). So how can we as the consumer help to not make this mistake again? How can we keep from feeding into this flawed system?

Find solutions that take you out of the waiting chair, and put you in the driver seat. For musculoskeletal pain & movement health – the answer is the [P]rehab App

It’s your body, shouldn’t you be helping to call the shots?

Mistake #2: Continuing To Sift Through Overwhelming Information

Taking advantage of all of the information provided by technology can feel overwhelming because, let’s face it, it is. How do you know who you can trust? Why is this person telling you one thing while another is telling you literally the exact opposite? Is that a safe exercise for my low back pain? Yep, we’ve seen it all and it absolutely does feel like a lot to sort through. Our original goal starting the [P]rehab Instagram page back in 2016 was to help battle misinformation, but 2023 is a different beast now!

With [P]rehab, you know you will be getting the highest level of education possible. As you progress through any program or any workout, you’re guided by a Doctor of Physical Therapy with years of experience. Mistake #3: Not Investing In Your Future

A common mistake we hear from too many people these days is that health is an expense.

Health is not an expense, it is one of the best investments you can make with your life

An even bigger mistake people make is they stop working on their health once musculoskeletal pain goes away. Investing in your health does not stop as soon as you’re done experiencing pain or you’re ‘discharged’ from rehabbing your injury. How do you even know you’re done?! Health is truly a lifelong investment in which you commit to yourself, your goals and your future. Let us help support you on that journey.

When your car is due for an oil change, you don’t just take it in once and then never get another oil change, do you? Our body should be treated no differently – although sometimes, that’s unfortunately how we treat it. When we get injured, and (hopefully) do the necessary rehab, we then tend to ignore the movements and exercises we learned that helped us get out of pain and not include them in our maintenance routine.

Use it or lose it, people! That routine maintenance – or prehab – is what keeps your engine running smoothy and prepared for any potholes, stressful trips, or unexpected weather conditions that your body might encounter in that joyous road trip called life.

Invest in your health with [P]rehab

Let [P]rehab be your ultimate guide on your health & wellness road trip. The app has dozens of programs for various injuries in addition to workouts, on-demand classes packed with education, mobility programs, and even fitness & performance programs to help you keep the pedal to the metal! Closing Thoughts

Yes, sometimes it often feels that navigating our current healthcare system is frustrating, scary and confusing, and trust me when I say I feel all those same things and I’m a healthcare provider! But know that you have options, you have people you can trust with the answer to that burning question, and we hope that we can be that sounding board for you here at [P]rehab. Let 2023 be the year of less mistakes and a focus on more self-care, and believe us when we say, we are here to support you every step of the way.
